Only a Democrat who truly lives in fantasy land could see last night's election results as a positive thing, and Nancy Pelosi -- our esteemed Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives -- is a case in point. We all know that lefists like Pelosi live in an altered state of reality (a place where good intentions pave a well worn path of failure), but this kind of denial is striking. Pelosi told Politico that the Democrats actually "won" last night -- never mind the huge victory for Republicans in Virginia and the deep blue state of New Jersey:
"From our perspective, we won last night," the California Democrat told reporters during a Wednesday photo op. "We had one race that we were engaged in, it was in northern New York, it was a race where a Republican has held the seat since the Civil War. And we won that seat. So, from our standpoint, no, a candidate was victorious who supports health care reform, and his remarks last night said this was a victory for health care reform and other initiatives for the American people."
"From our standpoint, we picked up votes last night," a cheerful Pelosi said, "one in California and one in New York."
"One race they were engaged in"? So, what was Obama doing when he went five times to try and salvage the Corzine campaign? Pelosi conveniently ignores that the NY 23 race is hardly a major victory for the Democrats, since it was the product of a fractious split within the Republican Party. Everyone knows that Owens will never hold that seat beyond 2010. Oh, and forget the fact that Owens actually campaigned AGAINST the public option. Yes, the Democrats did win a House race in San Francisco -- where it will be the year 2120 before a Republican wins again. But really -- to dismiss Christie's destruction of Corzine as a non-event truly strains credulity.
One thing is for sure, Pelosi's altered state will work to conservative advantage in 2010. Let her live in la la land, in the echo chamber of Code Pink, the Huffington Post and all those other left-wing groups who think that the world turned left on November 4, 2008. It will be a big shock when the tables turn. And we can send Nancy Pelosi back to her district in San Francisco, as the leader of a not-so-loyal opposition. She'll lose her big office, her military jet and all the other trappings of power that she abuses on a daily basis.
What a joy that will be!
Here's Pelosi gloating over her fantasy victory last night. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a world of your own making??
And this is the woman second in line for the presidency? Can you say SCARY???
