If that were true, of course, the Congress would be doing as little as possible, because they would admit that they don't really know what they are doing, and are acting only in the interest of furthering their power. They know, of course, that the health care bill they are working on will cost double what they say it will and won't help control costs or insure more people. They know this because the real intent of the bill is pure power: give us your tax dollars and control of your lives, and you will be dependent on us forever. For the socialists in Congress, this is their life's goal. And health care is the holy grail.
They are about to get what they have long wished for. And you can see the repercussions of small events: the stealing of the Minnesota Senate election by Al Franken. The decision of the Massachusetts to enable Governor Duval Patrick to appoint a replacement for Ted Kennedy in contravention of their own rules. And, of course, the loss of so many seats in the 2006 and 2008 elections, which gave Pelosi and Reid such a dominant majority.
It's a bad situation and it will get worse before it gets better. And for all those self-described "libertarians" who couldn't bring yourselves to vote for John McCain, this travesty is for you.

For a travesty of a different nature, take a look at David Beamer's incisive op-ed in the Wall Street Journal today "Eric Holder's Baffling KSM Decision". Beamer, who lost his son Todd on Flight 93 on 9/11, shows just how partisan and petty the left has become on issues of national security. And he shows clearly what a m-o-r-o-n our Attorney General is for making such a political decision on an issue of such gravity to our security. He outlines, for example, a series of questions that Republicans asked Holder on the repercussions of the decision to try KSM in a civilian court, with all the protections that go along with it:
How can we be assured that these enemies will be found guilty? Given that criminal courts are now the presumed venue for those captured on the battlefield, will soldiers need to read them their rights at the time of capture? Since you wish to make exceptions on a case-by-case basis to the presumed civil venue, don't all those captured need to be read their rights and have the opportunity to remain silent? Won't this venue expose intelligence to our enemies? Can our classified information really be secured? Can we in fact predict how the judge will rule? If these people are brought into the country will they get additional rights under immigration law? What if they claim asylum?
Beamer's piece makes you realize that Obama and his team are totally out of their depth. They don't know what they are doing and are clearly making it up as they go along.
Don't you feel safer now?

The attorney general seemed bewildered in the face of these inquiries. Recurring themes in his responses included "I think," and "I can't imagine," and "I am not an expert in immigration."
Has our attorney general not considered these issues, or imagined the possible unintended consequences that will arise from his historic decision? It certainly seemed that way. If he had, he would have had better answers.
Indeed. Better answers would be nice. How can it be that he hasn't thought through these critical issues? Is that the sign of responsible leadership? Or could it possibly be that he made the decision solely to throw a huge bone to the anti-war left that wants to return to the 1990's when we were spending a non-existent "peace dividend"?Beamer's piece makes you realize that Obama and his team are totally out of their depth.
