Update on MA: Health care industry lobbies for: Coakley?

The MA Senate race has taken on national attention now with some interesting results. As the WSJ reports this morning, the Democrat Martha Coakley held a fundraiser last night in Washington D.C. hosted in part by lobbyists for the health care industry -- Pfizer, Merck, Blue Cross.

Come again? The health care industry that is going to be completely remade by Obamacare is raising money for the guaranteed 60th vote to pass the health bill in the Senate?

Yup. You heard that right. The health care industry has been bought off by short-term deals in this bill:

As first reported by Timothy Carney of the Washington Examiner, the host committee for the fundraiser at Pennsylvania Avenue's Sonoma Restaurant includes lobbyists for Pfizer, Merck, Eli Lilly, Novartis and sundry other drug companies that have been among the biggest of ObamaCare's corporate sponsors. Other hosts—who have raised at least $10,000 for Ms. Coakley—include representatives from UnitedHealthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana and other insurers. As far as we can tell, the insurance industry claims to oppose ObamaCare's current incarnation.

So what gives? Pure unadulterated bribery and coercion.

Against overwhelming public opposition, the only things keeping ObamaCare alive at this point are power politics and the misguided corporate cease-fire that Democrats have either coerced or bought—or is homegrown at companies like Pfizer that are deeply invested in more government control of the economy. Ms. Coakley's election would make that outcome a certainty.

So, while Brown is raising $1.3 million on Tuesday from 17,000 individual donors, Coakley is raising big money from a handful of industry lobbyists. As the old saying goes: follow the money. The lobbyists are in bed with this administration, despite Obama's calls for "transparency" and an end to the culture of "corruption" in Washington. Coakley is just another reliable shill for all the is wrong with the health care bill.

People should be outraged!

One cautionary note brought up by the always brilliant Charles Krauthammer is that this race is now national news -- which has the Democrats in a total panic. The Dems are about to descend on MA in droves -- including the always affable Bill Clinton -- and the SEIU union is about to make a big ad buy in the state to pillory Brown. The threat to Brown is that this will lead to an uptick in intensity among Democrats, and that this will make it harder for Brown to overcome the 3:1 Democratic registration advantage in the state.

But don't be dismayed: the Democrats still have no idea how pissed the people are over what is going on in Washington D.C.!!
